Microwave Ovens will be required to meet new FCC EMI Conducted Emissions Standards!

FCC Conducted Emission Limits in Line with CISPR 11/22

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has amended the rules of parts 15 and 18 for Conducted Emissions to harmonize the Domestic requirements with the International standards.

The Report and Order, which was released on May 30, 2002, amended the conducted emission limits and requirements for Parts 15 and 18 to coincide with those specified in CISPR 22 (Information Technology Equipment) and CISPR 11 (Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) equipment). This includes consumer microwave ovens that are presently subjected only to Radiated Emission requirements.

The FCC anticipates that this move toward harmonization will provide better interference protection as well as promote a global marketplace for RF devices.

New Products that fall within the scope of FCC Parts 15 and 18 will have to comply within two years of the publication of the Report and Order in the Federal Register (May/June 2004). These rules will apply to all existing products on or after three years from that date (May/June 2005).
